Key milestone reached as work continues at Newton-le-Willows Station
Excavation works are progressing at Newton-le-Willows and representatives from the key partners involved and local councillors visited site on the 16 March to see the progress made so far. Sal Husein, Network Rail Sponsor for the scheme, said: “Work is progressing really well on the new Newton le Willows station entrance, ticket office and subway."
We are working just two metres beneath the live railway track to create the new 27m long pedestrian subway. Cllr Liam Robinson, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Portfolio Holder, said: “It’s great to see the significant progress that has been made on the Newton-le-Willows Interchange scheme despite the challenges that have been faced by the project team." The sand table being used to control the excavation works was designed and fabricated by Specialist Plant, part of the Joseph Gallagher Group, which has been featured on the front cover of April's edition of Tunnels and Tunnelling including a feature on this unique project.
