Joseph Gallagher, based in ESSEX, has been presented with a prestigious award in recognition of its practices and achievements in helping its people get home safely at the end of the working day. Joseph Gallagher has achieved a Gold in the internationally renowned RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK.

The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Joseph Gallagher, Group Chairman said: “The recognition of our performance and our commitment to the safety and well-being of our people, could not make me prouder. Our Living Incident Free Everyday culture underpins everything we do and has transformed our business.”

Steve Harvey, Group Managing Director said: “We have a huge responsibility to our people, and we must ensure we look after them. Nothing we do is wholly successful if we hurt someone in any way whilst doing it. Our LIFE Culture is all about mutual respect and empowerment and our safety performance is a very precious by-product of LIFE. ”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards have become the key fixture in the health and safety calendar with new sponsors and new awards this year. Highly respected, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, RoSPA award winners benefit from the wide-ranging rewards of improved sector reputation.”
Joseph Gallagher embarked on a behavioural safety programme in late 2014 after several incidents suggested that whilst they had all the procedures and processes in place in order to operate safely, people were still making the wrong choices. Their behavioural safety programme LIFE (Living Incident Free Everyday) is based on the premise that it is possible to send everyone home safe and well every day.

LIFE training, provides everyone with a lasting awareness of their responsibility for their own safety and that of everyone working on a project.
Glen Carlin, Head of SHEQ said: “LIFE provides our people with a confident proactive mindset and practical communication tools to make a difference. Together we are creating an inspiring environment free from harm.”
