Joseph Gallagher International Limited have set another weekly progress record as part of the installation of the new sewer for the Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC).
Working closely with Mechanical and Civil Engineering Contractors Co (MACE), who are the main contractor on the installation, Joseph Gallagher International is delivering microtunnelling services for more than 25km of piping for ADSSC’s development.
The Joseph Gallagher International team completed the 311m drive when the new 2000mm id Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through this week.
“This is a huge achievement and demonstrates our capability.” said Tony Matheson, International Operations Director. “We have built up a high performing project team in Abu Dhabi, with five TBM’s fully operational and another four coming online within the next two months.”
Joseph Gallagher’s specialist microtunnelling machines, and related support equipment, are installing pipes ranging from 400mm to 2,000mm id, reaching depths of 5-30m from the surface. The two-year project will use ISEKI and Herrenknecht equipment from the Joseph Gallagher microtunnelling fleet and will deliver wastewater services in Abu Dhabi, predominantly collecting, treating, and disposing end-products.
Tony Matheson said “This record should continually be beaten, as we have 170 people in the team working 24/6 shift patterns and are expecting to peak at over 500m a week when all the TBM’s are in place.”
“The ground conditions and weather are challenging but having access to all the resources and internal expertise from our parent company the Joseph Gallagher Group has been fundamental in enabling Joseph Gallagher International to already be classed as one of the best microtunnelling specialists in the region.”
Steve Harvey, Group Managing Director said “I am extremely proud of this high performing and driven team. It is a truly collaborative, multi-cultural project bringing together; different languages, cultures and ways of working. This talent and expertise from all backgrounds is unified through our LIFE culture, providing an industry leading approach to safety and well-being which has been embedded within the team and is raising the bar within our industry. Nothing we do is successful if we hurt someone in the process of doing it.”
