In these unprecedented times, we have seen the spread of COVID-19 impact the global economy like never before. The Government have had to act decisively to prevent the collapse of the economy, and industries and businesses across the globe are facing the same challenge – how to approach this crisis to safeguard their future.
We are privileged to support some of the largest clients in the UK construction industry, as well as enjoying a strengthening reputation in the Middle East. However, we must be agile enough to respond the changing situation from the Government and Client: these changes have happened more quickly than could have been anticipated by anybody and more quickly than any other time in our history. As a result, we have had to make some very difficult decisions in order to get through this: our priorities are to keep operating, remain aligned with our clients and seek to treat our people according to our core values.
The Construction Sector thus far has been fortunate to receive the support of the Government, and the contribution that we make in sustaining activity in these challenging times should not to be underestimated. For those sites that remain open, we thank you for adapting your working practices so quickly to help prevent the spread of this deadly virus: we appreciate and understand it has not been easy.
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) is the largest ever UK Government assistance programme in peacetime. On top of this, some clients have elected to fully support their supply chain whilst others have relied on CJRS. We are working through the detail of the various support programmes and will endeavour to keep you as well informed as we possibly can – and as quickly as we can, For our colleagues who support us through the Guild – the Government have indicated a similar level of support provided by the CJRS. This is an equally generous package, but what will serve us all the best is the reopening of all the sites as soon as it is safe to do so.
Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your continuing patience, resilience and professionalism. We wish you and all your families the very best in this difficult time
Joseph Gallagher and Steve Harvey
