The country and indeed the world are facing unprecedented times. Our areas of operation - the Middle East, Europe and the United Kingdom - are currently unrecognisable and indeed may never be the same again. Overnight, an economic crisis has followed the pandemic and it remains unclear just how close to ‘normal’ the world will ever be again.
What is very clear though is that until a vaccine is developed for Coronavirus, the world of construction will not be the same as it was. Social distancing and amended working practices will exist for the foreseeable future. As it is to all businesses, the impact to the Joseph Gallagher Group is massive, with turnover dramatically reduced in a very short space of time. It is very clear that many businesses may not see the other side of Covid-19 and those that do will potentially be in very different shape on the other side.
We will continue to respond to the rapidly changing situation in order to mitigate the impact of Covid-19. We are continuing our operations where clients have requested that we do so, and where we can operate within the Government and Health and Safety advice.
None of the decisions we are having to make are easy or pleasant, but they are essential. Three weeks ago, we were recruiting people at a rapid rate – that ceased overnight. What it is important to know is that Joseph Gallagher Group have a detailed and adaptable plan to get through this.
We have a very solid order book in hand for which we have signed contracts and most of which have commenced. In addition, we are working closely with both our clients and industry partners, who thus far have been very supportive: we have in the last 10 days signed two further contracts are indicating they may well cover the cost of some of our resources during the shutdown, which we are hoping will not be for too much longer. We have also offered our resources to UK Power Networks for any critical works, in addition to those we are already on with.
This business was a good business coming into this crisis and it will be a good business coming out of it provided we take the necessary actions to emerge from it intact and ready to deal with a brave new world that will require innovation, adaption and flexibility.
We would like to thank everyone for their efforts and resilience in these difficult times. Please take care and stay safe and we will get through this.
