SERVICESHorizontal Directional Drilling
We were approached by JN Bentley at the conceptual stage of the project to provide a solution for the trenchless crossings. It was clear that this project would pose some challenging aspects during both the design and construction phases. The 99 HDD crossings included major roads, rivers, canals, ditches, dykes and SSSI as well as drilling in different ground conditions such as rock, clay, sands, chalks and peat. Additionally, due to the rural location of the pipeline we had to work with JN Bentley and key stakeholders to assess the environmental aspects and impacts of each crossing individually at the design stage.
For this project directional drilling was the best solution. Utilising our in-house design team and the extensive experience of our operational teams, meant that we could design the individual profiles of each crossing and utilise a wide range of plant and equipment to overcome the changeable ground.
The largest crossing on the project was 400m crossing under a Network Rail passenger line. We worked with network rail to design this crossing, which was completed in 24hrs utilising remote tracking technologies under Network Rail supervision with no movement to their assets.
