Other Specialist Works
The Company has carried out many heading contracts using hand techniques. These have been constructed in ground conditions varying from granular deposits to soft rock. The Company has also constructed a number of hand dug piles where access to piling rigs is restricted or unavailable. These have ranged from 1.5m to 3.0m dia. with bell outs up to 8m and depths up to 40m.
Tunnel Refurbishment and Waterproofing
As part of its tunnel works, the Company is involved in leak sealing and concrete replacement and finishing works.
- Kings Cross Station Redevelopment - new entrances and stairways for emergency services access.
- Strood Tunnel - replacement of all track drainage and emergency repairs to tunnel with Shotcrete.
- Covent Garden Tube - emergency structural repairs to running tunnels and construction of reinforced concrete structures within night possessions.
Box Culvert Jacking
The Company has been involved in the jacking of box culverts for many years.
- Design and construct contract for a 4.1m x 3.3m jacked subway under the Warnham Road in Horsham.
- A 'stacked' box culvert bridge abutment was jacked under 5 no railway lines at Colchester Station. Cover to the top box was less than 1.5m and the 36m long 4.4m x 3.6m reinforced concrete box units were successfully driven without disruption to the railway and within settlement limits of 12mm.
