Crossrail C360

Provide ventilation and emergency access to the main running tunnels at two separate locations – Eleanor Street and Mile End.

An Overview
Crossrail Contract C360 is to provide ventilation and emergency access to the main running tunnels at two separate locations – Eleanor Street and Mile End. A 17.5m i.d. and 10.5m i.d. temporary shaft were required at Bow and a 12.5m shaft at Mile End all of which were 30m deep and located between the two main running tunnels. From the bases of each shaft, SCL adits were constructed and connected to the running tunnels.  There were eight adits at Eleanor Street in a complex arrangement and two at Mile End. The shafts were constructed with the upper stages using segmental rings and the lower stages using SCL techniques. All the adits were constructed in SCL to form the primary lining and completed with bespoke shutter designs to form insitu secondary linings with a pvc waterproof membrane system. In all 220m of 9m i.d. and 5m i.d. adits were constructed with 20 junctions. The shafts were also lined using bespoke designed shutters.
