Woolwich Line Enclosure - Westfield Shopping Centre

The construction of a reinforced concrete box around a live running track, which allowed the Westfield Shopping Centre to be built over and around the line.

An Overview
The construction of a reinforced concrete box around a live running track (The NR Woolwich Line) which allowed the Westfield Shopping Centre to be built over and around the line.The works involved the installation and testing of bored piles along each side of the operational railway followed by pile-cropping and the construction of reinforced concrete pile caps. This was followed by the construction of 500mm thick walls in varying heights from 4.5m to 7.5m. The walls were heavily reinforced and provided with an F4 finish to the exposed surface.
