An Overview
The design and construction of step-free access facility from ticket hall level to platform level at Green Park Underground Station. The works included the demolition of existing redundant infrastructure, including concrete sawing and excavation to provide the area for a ticket hall extension. The construction of an RC slab and RC walls. At this stage the slab was used as a foundation for the temporary acoustic building used in conjunction with the shaft and adit construction, to provide step-free access to the extended ticket hall. Following completion of these works and the removal of the acoustic building the remainder of the RC walls and the roof slab were completed. The works involved the construction of an elliptical shaft 28m deep. The shaft profile was chosen to avoid existing escalator barrels, running tunnels and passageways. From the base of the shaft an elliptical stub tunnel 11.2m high was driven to enable tunnels and entrance lobbies to be formed, connecting to the existing underground passageways. The majority of the work was constructed using SCL techniques for the primary lining and insitu reinforced concrete for the secondary linings.
