A13 National Grid Gas Diversion

Joseph Gallagher were contracted by Fastflow to undertake diversion works on a high-pressure gas main for National Grid.

An Overview

Joseph Gallagher were contracted by Fastflow to undertake diversion works on a high-pressure gas main for National Grid. Microtunnelling was the perfect solution for this project, given the non-disruptive nature and limited site footprint available.

Two microtunnel drives were required underneath the main carriages;

  • one 63.4m at the A13 section
  • one 44.1m drive under Stanford Road

Our works consisted of:

  • 6m x 5m x 5.3m sheet piled thrust pit.
  • 6m x 5.4m x 7.5m sheet piled thrust pit.
  • 14.2m x 4.2m x 6.8m sheet piled reception
    pit

This project was entirely managed with internal resources, including 40t and 50t cranes provided by NRC Plant and man-riding cages and the ISEKI Microtunnelling machines, provided by Specialist Plant Limited, all part of the Joseph Gallagher Group of companies.
