Temporary Works
Temporary works play a critical role in the safe, efficient and successful delivery of complex construction and infrastructure projects, and sit at the heart of our design and engineering capability. Many of the highest risks on a project exist during temporary conditions, and our approach is to treat temporary works with the same level of rigour, engineering judgement and assurance as permanent works.
Supported by a multi-skilled workforce and deep construction experience, we provide tailored temporary works designs that enable complex builds to be delivered safely, practically and with confidence. Our engineers work closely with construction teams to ensure temporary solutions are fully integrated into construction sequencing, logistics and programme constraints from the outset.
Our temporary works capability includes the design and coordination of concrete formwork and falsework systems, ensuring stability, load control and safe access during pours and strikes. We also design scaffolding, access arrangements and structural bracketry, providing safe working platforms and interfaces for construction activities in constrained or high-risk environments.
For below-ground works, we deliver temporary support for excavations of varying complexity, including retaining systems, internal and external propping arrangements and ground support solutions. These systems are carefully designed and coordinated to manage earth pressures, groundwater effects and interaction with adjacent assets as excavation progresses.

Temporary works are underpinned by robust monitoring and management processes, delivered in accordance with relevant British Standards. We define monitoring requirements, trigger levels and response actions to ensure that performance is verified against design assumptions and that emerging risks are identified and managed proactively.
Our capability also extends to safe and inclusive traffic and pedestrian management, including hoarding, fencing, road and footway arrangements, haul roads, access diversions and traffic management plans. These elements are integral to temporary works design, particularly in urban and operational environments where maintaining safe movement of people and vehicles is essential.
Across all temporary works solutions, our focus remains on safety, buildability and adaptability, supported by close collaboration with clients, designers, contractors and local authorities. This integrated approach ensures temporary works are not only technically robust, but also practical, coordinated and aligned with the wider project objectives, providing a stable foundation for successful permanent works delivery.
