Cairo Metro, Egypt

The NCP402 project forms part of the Greater Cairo Metro Line 4 and involves constructing 5.80m internal‑diameter twin‑bore tunnels that will pass through four intermediate stations. These fully segmentally lined tunnels will be excavated using two identical slurry TBMs supplied by CRCHI, forming a key section of the new metro link.

Joseph Gallagher Ltd (JGL) has been appointed to provide specialist tunnelling advisory support, which includes:

• Reviewing TBM specifications and tunnelling methodologies
• Assessing tunnelling systems and workflows
• Advising on plant, equipment, and operational procedures required for the successful delivery of the works

Our involvement ensures that the TBM systems, support processes, and overall tunnelling methodology are robust, efficient, and aligned with industry best practice.

The TBMs are now on site, and station construction is progressing in preparation for tunnelling operations, which are scheduled to begin in May 2026. JGL maintains an on-the-ground presence in Cairo, with resources scaling to a 25‑strong specialist team as full operations get underway, ensuring uninterrupted technical support throughout both drive excavations.
