JGL has the capabilities to construct shafts of all sizes and depths, in all ground conditions, by all techniques. Our shafts range from 2.0m id to 25m id by caisson and from 1.5m id to 30m id by underpinning. Larger shafts require us to utilise other construction techniques.
Joseph Gallagher has been involved in sprayed concrete works for both tunnels and shafts. This method of tunnelling is well establish for large diameter tunnel construction throughout the UK. We have used this type of tunnelling in London, for Crossrail, London Underground and many more.
Hand driven tunnelling is hundreds of years old and provides flexibility when encountering unexpected ground conditions. Joseph Gallagher is recognised for its expertise in large hand driven tunnels in London Clay and other mediums.
Our expertise of shield driven tunnels includes construction of tunnels from 1.2m id to 7.15m id and range from simple handwork to full face EPBM and slurry tunnel machine drives.
Joseph Gallagher has been involved in the construction of the majority of the new escalator shafts in London for many years for Transport for London.
Microtunnelling is a remotely operated, small diameter tunnel which is achieved by jacking pipes of concrete, or other suitable materials, behind a tunnelling machine, from a launch shaft into a reception shaft.
