61 years of service come to an end

Following an incredible duration at local crane hire company, NRC Plant Limited, Bob Carr finally calls it a day after 61 years of service, to enjoy time with his family whilst also trying to find a hobby to pass the time!

Bob, 76 from Hullbridge started NRC at the age 15 as an apprentice. With apprenticeships at their peak in the 1960’s, Bob received on-the-job training and worked towards becoming a qualified mobile crane engineer.

Once qualified, he went onto travelling across the country rigging, de-rigging, repairing, and servicing cranes for clients nationwide as well as for our subsidiary company - Joseph Gallagher Limited (JGL).

He did this for most of his time at NRC. However, when the constant travelling stopped becoming enjoyable, he wanted to stay local. In 2015, NRC made a position available for Bob to become a Yard Crane Driver instead.

“It’s the best job and only job I’ve ever had, after getting fed up with my paper round. I certainly won’t miss the 5am starts but I will sincerely miss the people I’ve had the privilege of working with along the way.”

Bob, married for over 50 years is very much looking forward to spending quality time with his wife and finding himself a hobby to pass the time.
