Project Overview
In 2018-19, before Covid-19 impacted the world, JGL were commissioned by Costain to support construct the Shieldhall Tunnel - Scotland's biggest wastewater tunnel.
In July 2020 we were asked to undertake a man-entry shaft and tunnel inspection, which we delivered to an exceptional level. Following our ongoing delivery of exceptional standards - we were approached this year to carry out a tunnel survey to inspect a hairline crack on the tunnel soffit approximately 60m into the tunnel.
This survey was subcontracted to Angell Surveys, who carried out the drone‑based inspection under supervision from the JGL team.
Added Value
This innovative method of conducting a tunnel survey significantly reduced the risk to our workforce by eliminating the need for confined‑space entry.
It also delivered substantial cost savings, as there was no requirement to hire cranes for shaft and tunnel access, procure confined‑space emergency equipment, or deploy a larger manpower team for the operation.

It was good to see the JGL high standards maintained even on the small one off jobs like this.
